HCM City: 80% of female sex workers get access to harm reduction services

VGP – As many as 287,604 people including high-risk people and female sex workers in Ho Chi Minh City have gotten access to the HIV/AIDS prevention program during 2016-2020, making up 80% and 70% of female prostitutes and men who have sex with men (MSM), respectively.

According to the statistics of the city’s Department for social evil prevention and control, 9,018 service establishments are operating in the city, including 5,512 accommodation facilities, 2,107 restaurant, karaoke, massage and spa establishments, 31 bars and 1,368 service facilities. 

Specifically, 24,669 education sessions were held, attracting the participation of 1,687,446 people.

8,512 out of 9,018 service establishments have committed to implementing measures to prevent prostitution, accounting for 94.38%.

More than 12,833,400 condoms and over 11,829,800 syringes were distributed while 2,170,607 people were provided with counseling and testing services.

The city has supplied consultancy and legal assistance services for 1,008 people; provided medical support and health care services for 45,122 people.
