Global Fund helps Can Tho struggle against HIV/AIDS

VGP – Can Tho City’s People’s Committee has approved the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS project in 2019 in the city which is sponsored through the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria.

The project aims to reduce the number of HIV/AIDS carriers and deaths of HIV/AIDS, maintain the HIV transmissions among community under 0.4% and lessen the impacts of HIV/AIDS on socio-economic development. 

It also continues effective implementation of HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities heading to launch the 90-90-90 Plan by 2020 (By 2020, 90% of all people living with HIV will know their HIV status; 90% of all people with diagnosed HIV infection will receive sustained antiretroviral therapy; 90% of all people receiving antiretroviral therapy will have viral suppression) and end AIDS by 2030. 

The project includes treatment, care and support programs, prevention of mother-to-children HIV transmissions, intervention for drug addicts and their partners, information and evaluation system, management and HIV counselling and testing. 

The sponsor from the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria is worth US$230,171 or more than VND5.3 billion. 

The Global Fund is among two largest Viet Nam’s HIV/AIDS prevention and control sponsors over the recent years. The project has helped the nation realize HIV/AIDS prevention and control program with technical services for ARV treatment and HIV testing and counseling.
