DPM asks for effective communications work on HIV/AIDS, drug, prostitution prevention

VGP – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has asked relevant agencies and ministries to fully utilize effective coordination mechanisms, integration and implementation of communications contents in the National strategy on ending AIDS by 2030, the drug prevention and control program during 2021-2025 and the prostitution prevention and control program in 2021-2025.

The Deputy PM spoke highly of outcomes of the implementation of the plan on communications collaboration on HIV/AIDS, drug and prostitution in 2020 and efforts of relevant ministries and agencies in launching the plan. 

Accordingly, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs urges the Ministry of Public Security, the Viet Nam Television, the Voice of Viet Nam and the Viet Nam News Agency to make plans and realize  Decision No. 2140/QD-TTg, approving project entitled “Cooperation in communications for HIV/AIDS, drug and prostitution prevention and fighting to 2020”.   

The Ministry of Information and Communications directs press agencies to popularize information on drug prevention and control, broadcast information on struggling against drugs and closely prevent activities on advertising, selling and purchasing drugs on social network as well as soon discover drug trafficking through postal services. 

The number of synthetic drug users in Viet Nam has jumped six-fold since 2017, the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime said its report themed “Synthetic Drugs in East and Southeast Asia: latest developments and challenges 2021”.

It is estimated the figure at nearly 190,000 last year.

The seizures of almost 2.5 million tablets of methamphetamine in 2020 surpassed the combined quantities recorded for 2018 and 2019.

While the amount of crystalline methamphetamine seized in 2020 was lower than that recorded for 2019, it was still significantly greater than the annual amounts seized before 2019.
